THE BEGINNING

Finally the timing was right

We are live! After many years talking about Sheldrake, finally the timing felt right, with Alice’s children all at school and Chloe leaving her job in construction. Here’s our stories that lead us to this moment.

Alice:

I initially worked in food

Chloe:

In 2015, my brother Tommy and I started a construction company.. We both worked our socks off to get the business off the ground, spending our days on building sites, come rain or shine, using bicycles to get around sites in London.. I spent my days being the middle man between our interior designers and architects and our own teams of builders and Site Managers, solving problems and interpreting drawings. Then just as it all seemed to have found a fantastic rythm, my husband dropped the bombshell; we have to move to Switerland. So with huge sadness I left Thornhill Shann and headed to live in a barn between Geneva and Lausanne.

Suddenly for the first time in my life I had time, time to really consider what I wanted to do with my life.

Sheldrake is Alices’s idea, she had talked about setting up an antiques business pretty much since when I met her. Joining forces seemed the perfect fit, our taste is totally aligned and the level of our obsession for antiques and beautiful objects is at a parr. As much as I loved building houses, I realised that what really makes a home are its contents. Antiques and ‘Objects’ are astonishingly affordable, whereas to buy a great picture by an artist who’s at the top of their game is reserved only for those with bulging bank accounts. A piece of furniture, a plate, a rug if it strikes a chord with me is just as important to a home as a new bathroom or a picture and is a fraction of the price.
