A William and Mary Oyster-Veneered Chest of Drawers

£3,800.00

An extremely fine olive wood, walnut and fruit wood chest of drawer. This is a classic design of the late 17th Century in England during the joint reign of King William III and Queen Mary II. William III (William of Orange) was from the Netherlands so brought a change in the style of furniture making; with walnut veneer and marquetry inlays coming into fashion and paving the way for the more delicate style typical during the time of Queen Anne’s reign. This oyster veneer is achieved by cutting thin slices across small walnut branches. Sitting on its original bun feet and handles that were likely replaces in the 1800s.
