A richly figured early Georgian chest of drawers with scrolling ‘seaweed’ panels and cross banded top and drawers. The plinth base and handles will be a later edition, it is likely that its original bun feet rotted; flooring back then was often damp or they got wet when the floor was washed, so this is in fact a good sign of its age. The original handles would have been a batwing in shape, but it’s likely they were replaced in 19th/early 20th Century with these drop handles which were very fashionable at the time. The chest and its marquetry have a very lovely early feel to them. An extremely charming thing.
