A Large 19th Century Painted Overmantel Mirror

£8,000.00

A Victorian aesthetic movement guilt and ebsonised overmantel mirror with its original plain mirror plate and a balustrade gallery flanked by turned and reeded column supports. The base is flanked by scrolled brackets.

The Victorian Aesthetic Movement, flourishing from the 1860s to the 1900s, was a cultural and artistic rebellion against the stiff and rigid Victorian norms of the time. It championed "art for art's sake," emphasising beauty and aesthetic values over moral or social messages. This was the beginning of a movement that lead to the Bloomsbury Group.
