A Folk Painted Dowry Chest
An early painted marriage chest, likely from Hungary or Southern Germany. Made using pine, with a flat plank lid and original hand-forged iron fittings.
The painted surface has mellowed with age, showing areas of wear and patina consistent with two centuries of use. A rare survivor with wonderful decorative presence and folk charm.
