17th Century Oak Coffer
This early vernacular oak coffer or kist is made using a simple boarded construction, the straight sides and sledge-type feet suggest it’s from Wales or the West Country. The legs are an extension of its body, suggesting it was made between 1650 - 1700, however we believe the straight, flat lid is a later 18th century addition. This is a wonderful piece that has been looked after - it’s in good sturdy condition for its age.
Wales or England, mid to late 17th century
